This second book of The Daughters Daring is every bit as good as the first. Its pages are filled with adventure, magic, pirates, orcs, gnomes, elves, ogres, and a variety of fantastic creatures. There is not a dull moment in the book. I read it in one go and enjoyed its refreshing and endearing characters. It does not end on a cliffhanger, but leaves one wanting to read the next in the series to find out what happens with Duke and Duchess Daring and the kingdom of Highcynder. The book is tastefully written and clear of vulgarity, gore, and inappropriate adult themes, so it can be safely read by young and old alike.I would definitely recommend this book for parents of young readers and young adult readers.

The Daughters Daring (2)& The Crystal Sea by Steven J. Thompson is a cross of fantasy meets adventure on the high seas. Being a stowaway, searching for an item to enhance magical powers, pirates, gnomes, etc. fill the pages in this well-crafted story designed for readers of all ages. There is a charm in the pages that becomes easily understandable when one reads the authors bio. He was inspired by countless bedtimes stories he told to his daughters. From the very first page, when Emily Darling wiped her brow and took up the fighting stance through to the end, this was an enjoyable read. I look forward to the next.
The Daughters Daring and the Crystal Sea is another winner in the Daughters Daring series. This time, it’s a high adventure on the seas as the older daughter, Emily, becomes a castaway so that she can be in search of an elusive magical object that would enhance her powers. The story is entirely appropriate for children, and in particular, girls because the two sisters are the heroines of the story, doing their own clever strategy and a little bit of fighting using magic and some spells.
I tried to probe the story for some weaknesses to assist the author in making this a better book, but cannot. The only thing I can think of was that it was somewhat foolish for Emily to just take off in the ship without informing anyone, but girls would love reading about the impishness.
The fantasy has its limits, purposively as the author strives for a careful balance of the use of magic, making it hard-earned and credible.
Your girls (and boys) would really enjoy this story.
