A beautiful young TV star, Jody Merrill, dies mysteriously and police are stumped. They are even more at a loss when the grisly remains of yet another actress, Jody's co-star, are found.

Detectives request the help of doctors Jill Raney and David Levine, police friends and detectives on their own. For Jill and David this is personal; they are heartbroken since both murdered young women were their friends. Furiously they resolve to find the killer to skirt the law as they always do in cases of sex crimes, child abuse and murder; helping where cops' hands are tied ("No warrant? No problem!"), or in ways that police forensics never imagined.

The killer, capable of unspeakable savagery, must commit more murders in order to hide...possibly behind the glitzy cover of Show Biz Hell. As Jody Merrill called it, "That gorgeous, sparkly bubble that closes you in, bloats your ego in some weird, alternate universe where you lose all bearings, lose yourself. Fame is unhealthy."

SILVER GIRL EMBRYO A Raney Levine Thriller Book 5 edition by JA Schneider Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I've read all four of the previous books in this series, and it's been a real roller coaster ride of suspense, medical shenanigans, and relationship building. Book one started the romance between Raney and Levine, and gave us Jesse, the miracle baby. The relationship became a marriage, and the marriage became a family. All of this while some seriously deranged bad guys added that touch of adrenalin that kept me furiously turning pages.

SILVER GIRL is the first in the series to be a complex murder mystery. We are not faced with a madman trying to take out as many people as possible, we have two dead girls, and the need to find their murderer.

I love to find an author still finding his or her voice. I am always honored to find myself tagging along for the ride. I don't care if you are Stephen King or someone totally unknown, you have to start somewhere, and if you keep going, there has to be development. J. A. Schneider is developing her characters by making them more and more human from book to book. She is also honing the skills of mystery writers everywhere. I think she does a great job in SILVER GIRL of making you think through the possible suspects without giving too much away at any one time. There is definitely more whodunit here than adrenalin while still making the pages seem to turn themselves.

I don't know about y/ou, but I read books for a variety of reasons. I read to learn something new, to enjoy the dread of horror, but mostly, I read for the pure enjoyment of the stories and characters. Without giving anything away, there is a brilliant piece of misdirection in this book that pretty much made my day.

As much as I want to convince you to read SILVER GIRL, in all fairness, you have to read the four that came before to fully appreciate what is happening. These are all perfect books to take to the beach, read on a plane, or just for some time alone with a good book.

SILVER GIRL EMBRYO A Raney Levine Thriller Book 5 edition by JA Schneider Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I have loved all 5 of the Embryo books. Amazing writing in all 5 books. I couldn't put it down. I read Embryo 3, 4, & 5 in 4 days. They are all excellent books. I would highly recommend these books to everyone who likes a Medical Thriller.
Just finished this book and I have to say, what a great story. So enjoyable to have Jill and David again solving a mystery. Love little Jesse always involved. I especially liked the character of Edna in this story. I found her totally funny and delightful. You won't want to miss this 5th edition of the Embryo series.
I have read every book in this series although I didn't finish the one involving reptiles. They are all well written and keep me guessing. I enjoy the exploits of Jill and David and following little Jesse's growth. Can't wait to read the next one.
I rated it # 5, but actually a #10 would be more like it. I can't remember when a collection of mystery books have kept me so much on the edge of my chair. I can't wait to finish one and start the next one in the series. Way to go ! I hope you keep bringing ñew and VERY interesting mysteries to us. Thanx🐣
JA Schneider has another winner with this book! This Embryo series is fantastic. Medically it is totally up to snuff; I worked in the OR for years and I can tell you she has it down pat! The storyline is fantastic - this is the fifth book in the series and you really wind up feeling as though you know these characters! And little Jesse - you just watch along with his "parents" to see him evolve WAY before others his age. I cannot see this series ending any time soon! I read this in 3 sittings - could not put it down.

Back to the writing, Joyce! We are all waiting for the next installment! Ha ha ha!
Silver Girl (Embryo A Raney & Levine Thriller Book 5) by J.A. Schneider starts with the killing of Jody, an actress who is friends with Jill Raney & David Levine. Another actress is also murdered.

"'People would tell Jody she was gifted,' Jill sighed, now seeing Jody being funny about her unhappiness. 'But she'd hoot & say, "Some gifts aren't really gifts. Can I return this fame thing?"

Jill & David's relationship continues to develop. She wondered about how good she felt when she was around him. "Can one person be like a tranquilizer to another? David was. She could breathe again tucked into his warmth, his patient, careful listening as she spewed her rage, her sorrow, talked a mile a minute about her morgue visit & the cops frustration.

'They're nowhere. Have nothing on anybody! They have no case!'"

I gave this intense suspense-filled thriller five stars.

I loved this series & can hardly wait for Book 6.

Actress Jody Merill is killed by anaphylaxis after someone slipped penicillin into her drink. Her costar is murdered as well. Solving the case is personal to Raney and Levine as Jody was their friend.

In a departure for the series there is no ongoing threat of additional murders or the fear of harm to our heroes. Because of this, I felt the investigation lacked a degree of immediacy present in the other books.

As always the characters are fantastic, and really came alive for me. It’s unusual enough to find well written characters that seem genuine and multifaceted. It’s a real treat to find such characters with the additional quality of conveying an emotional connection – where you care about what happens to them.

The author addressed the “ineffectiveness” of the police department by mentioning that the cops are compelled to abide by legal requirements such as obtaining warrants, to which Raney and Levine are not subject.

I was not shocked by the killer’s identity, but I was very surprised at my sympathy towards this person.

Jesse is a very bright and advanced toddler, but the focus is not on him at all. However, there was enough about him to keep the original plot-line going regarding his extraordinary gestation, birth and development.

I cannot wait for book 6.
